It looks like we are facing a dilemma, to slaughter whole flocks of birds or to vaccinate them against the H51N strain of bird flu. The problem is, however that the UK does does not appear to have the vaccine.The Soil Association, on their web site is urgently calling for the Government to adopt vaccination as a first-stage control to combat any outbreak of bird flu UK. They say that this use of vaccination in the form of a ring-fence is a proven, effective tool that should be used ahead of any moves to bring organic and free-range poultry indoors throughout the country and to prevent the mass-slaughter of UK poultry.
Haven't we seen this all before with foot and mouth?
