Over the last few weeks I have been thinking about the spread of the H51N virus and the effect on those coming into contact with it. I think that there are curently 90 fatalities worldwide attributed to the disease. At the beginning of 2006 it seemed a long way from home but then as it passed through Turkey, then into Nigeria I began to think that it was inevitably going to arrive in the UK at some point. Then, last week it was detected in Germany and in the last few days in France. Bird flu is bad enough but the talk of a pandemic is in another league. As far as I know, bird flu has not been detected in the UK yet (21 February 2006) but today there is increased news coverage. For anyone interested in this subject I have put together a very basic web site that is linked to some of the major government agencies including the World Health Organisation (WHO).
